Before you ask

The questions that arrive by email most weeks, answered once here so the desk can get on with the rest.

Does the altitude bother people?

Some. Sils is at 1,803 metres and the first night can be restless. Drink more water than seems sensible, go gently with wine on the first evening, and leave the glacier for day three.

Can I bring a dog?

Yes, in the Fex side and slope side rooms. There's a towel for paws in the boot room. Dogs stay out of the Stüva and the warm room.

Is there a lift?

No. The two ground-floor Fex side rooms have a step-free way in from the front door and a seat in the shower.

Do you sell ski passes?

No. Some hotels in the valley include one in winter and this one doesn't, so you buy it at the valley station. The desk will tell you which pass covers which hill.

When does the lake freeze?

Usually late December or in January. The commune decides when the ice is open, and until the sign on the shore says so, stay off it.

Are children welcome?

Yes. The corner rooms take a cot or a third bed, and the kitchen does an early supper at half past five.

Is the house open in November?

All year. Many hotels close from mid-October to early December and again after Easter, and so do the cable cars. Those weeks are for walking and reading.

What is the mast on the roof for?

Records. It reports every ten minutes to the federal weather service, and the bar chalks up the five o'clock figures.

Play at Trail & Sensor happens in one cellar room and nowhere else. The Sensor Room takes no bets online, keeps no player accounts and moves no money through this website.
