The warm room
A wood-fired sauna, a plunge pool at meltwater temperature and a dim rest room with six loungers. Open from three until nine, adults only after six.
How it gets used
Most people come straight in from the trail, still in thermals. Shower, a quarter of an hour in the sauna, the plunge, then a blanket and a jug of water in the rest room. Twice round is plenty at this altitude.
The stove is lit at two and fed every hour with larch from the forest above Plaun da Lej.
The rest room
Six loungers, low lamps, a curtain across the door. There's no music and no phone signal, partly the stone and partly on purpose.
Books on the shelf are mostly about mountains, and most of them were left behind by guests.
In summer
The lake takes over. Lake Sils reaches about 15 degrees in a warm August, and the desk lends towels and a dry bag to anyone who wants to swim off the Chastè. The sauna stays lit for afterwards.
