White chairs set round a table in the upper hall

Meetings and celebrations, second floor

The upper hall

The old sorting room for the mail, now a hall for forty seated or sixty standing, with windows on both long sides of the house.

What it's used for

Wedding dinners, mostly in June and September. Walking clubs that take the whole house for a week and want somewhere to spread out maps. Ski schools holding their winter meeting.

And a string quartet every August, which began as a favour to a guest and has turned into a fixture.

How it's set up

  • Up to forty at long tables, or sixty on their feet.
  • A projector, a screen and a sound system that rarely goes past half.
  • A small serving kitchen; the food itself comes up from the Stüva.
  • A terrace on the lake side, usable from June to September.

Asking for it

Write to the desk with the date, the number of people and roughly what you have in mind. Anything over twenty people takes the whole house for the night, because the hall sits over bedrooms and sound carries in a building this old.
