Train, post bus or one of the passes

Getting here

Sils has no station. Most guests take the train to St. Moritz and finish on the post bus, which stops a hundred metres from the door.

By train and post bus

From Zurich it's about three and a half hours with one or two changes, the last stretch on the Rhaetian Railway over the Albula line, through the spiral tunnels.

At St. Moritz station take the post bus towards Maloja. It runs every half hour in the daytime and takes about twenty minutes to the stop called Sils/Segl Maria, Posta.

By car

From the north over the Julier Pass, open all year, or through the Vereina tunnel on the car train. From Italy over the Maloja, also open all year but with tight hairpins on the Bregaglia side.

Winter tyres from November to April are a practical must here, whatever the rules say elsewhere.

The village centre is closed to traffic. Drive to the barrier at its edge and ring the desk: someone comes down with a trolley, and the car goes into the garage under the barn, which has twelve spaces.

Flying in

Zurich is the usual airport. Milan Malpensa is about as far by road, but the rail link from there is slower. The small airfield at Samedan, twenty-five minutes away, takes private aircraft.
